Dr. Amy Jacobs is an assistant professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the State University of New York at Buffalo. The goal of her laboratory's research is to expand the knowledge of pathogen interactions with cellular membranes by developing a detailed understanding of HIV entry. The mechanisms of host-microbe interactions also serve as templates for the design of novel drug delivery tools. Her laboratory places strong emphasis on training and mentoring young scientists.

Research Interests:
  1. Molecular level elucidation of the steps in the mechanisms of membrane fusion
  2. Structure-function relationships of membrane protein complexes
  3. Design and fabrication of nanoparticles modeled upon natural membrane protein systems to combat a wide range of diseases

Research Areas:

Membrane protein structure and function
Lipid-protein and protein-protein interactions
Molecular dynamics simlulations of membrane protein systems
Membrane fusion mechanisms
Membrane biophysics
Protein engineering and protein chemistry
